A cat has been found skinned alive in Mdina, the parliamentary secretariat for Animal Rights said in a statement deploring the crime.
The violent crime appears to have taken place two days ago, with the case referred to the Animal Welfare Directorate this morning.
Parliamentary Secretary Clint Camilleri expressed revulsion at the "criminal act" and said there was full cooperation with the police to ensure the perpetrator was brought to justice.
