Three semi-Persian kittens were yesterday dumped in the bathrooms of the university's Faculty of Arts and despite being rescued two of them may not make it.
The kittens were apparently abandoned there so that Rosa Zammit Salinos, a university employee who has set up a cat village on campus, could take care of them.
But only one of the six-week old kittens, which were rushed to the vet, is likely to survive.
Rosa, as she is fondly referred to by all cat lovers on campus, was extremely upset at the attitude that made people dump kittens in the area just because they knew she would care for them.
"Very often, creating awareness can lead to reverse logic and last week three kittens were dumped near the university chapel," she said.
People had to take responsibility for their pets and if they did not want any kittens, then neutering was the only solution.
"I am appealing to the public to stop heartlessly dumping animals," she said.
Rosa, who has gained a reputation for her love of cats over the years, has even recycled old computer monitors and used them as shelters for the 32 cats on campus.
