I wish to congratulate Mr Kenneth Cassar for his awareness of animals (The Sunday Times, October 10). I wonder whether the consortium looking after public gardens has opened a new cat sanctuary nobody seems to be aware of, and what is happening to the disappearing cats.

I happened to be at Upper Barracca three weeks ago and felt a sudden emptiness in the place and wondered what it could be, and then I asked myself where had all the cats gone. Both tourists and children loved their presence. Where have they been taken to?
