Some 20 cats recently disappeared overnight from San Anton Gardens. Most of these and others at the gardens have been neutered at the expense of kind-hearted volunteers who take good care of them.

It has been reported that these and other cats are being removed from public gardens by consortia contracted by the government for the upkeep of the gardens.

I have been advised that cats can only be removed from public gardens by the SPCA with the authorisation of the police.

If this is correct, these consortia have acted in breach of the law.

Incidentally I have seen many tourists admiring the cats and patting them but have yet to see any give a second glance to the "flower creations" of the consortia.
