Celebrating faith and community: Nadur parish unveils 2026 calendar
12 striking photos taken from elevated viewpoints capture the village’s beauty
The 2026 calendar, published by the parish of St Peter and St Paul in Nadur, is currently being distributed to every household in the village. Beyond its practical use, the calendar also serves as a visual and spiritual document reflecting the rich religious and social life of the Nadur community.
In his calendar message, Nadur archpriest Fr Krystof Buttigieg reflects on this year’s chosen theme, Ħarsa mill-Għoli (A view from above). The calendar features 12 striking photographs taken from elevated viewpoints, capturing the beauty of Nadur from unique perspectives and highlighting the charm of the village as seen from high above.
Fr Buttigieg draws inspiration from several Psalms connected with creation, encouraging people to move away from constant complaining or isolating themselves indoors, which can lead to a bleak outlook on life. Instead, he invites them to step outside, take a breath and rediscover beauty. Creating some distance, he explains, often helps one see things more clearly. He adds that the best way to find rest and appreciate beauty is to rise above and look down from a higher perspective. This does not necessarily mean climbing a hill or boarding an aircraft, but rather learning how to look at life “from above” by turning one’s gaze towards the Creator of the Universe.
Quoting scripture, Fr Buttigieg writes: “Who is like the Lord our God, who dwells on high, who looks down upon heaven and earth? He raises the needy from the dust and lifts the poor from the ash heap, to seat them with princes, with the princes of his people” (Psalm 113:5-8). He also cites Psalm 33: “From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind… to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine” (Psalm 33:13, 19).
Fr Buttigieg concludes his message by explaining that the photographs published in the calendar are intended to help viewers see themselves through God’s eyes, gradually realising how much they are blessed. He closes with the biblical blessing: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord look upon you kindly and give you peace” (Numbers 6:24-26).
