Celebrating maritime life

After the success of last year’s edition, Heritage Malta is once again organising the Life at Sea event at the Malta Maritime Museum, Vittoriosa Waterfront.

Being held on Sunday, the event will feature the following activities and more: re-enactments portraying maritime life between the 16th and 19th centuries; firing of cannon and muskets and military drills; a display by the maritime squadron; the screening of exclusive footage of underwater wrecks provided by the Aurora Trust; a display of renovation, conservation of traditional Maltese boats; a display or working and static marine engines, ship and boat model making; food and beverage stalls connected to the seafaring life, and also specific activities for children.

Visitors will also be able to view a photographic exhibition at the museum’s St Angelo Hall, which was inaugurated yesterday, titled Malta Seascapes. The exhibition, which will be open to the public for a fortnight, coincides with the launching of Flickristi’s book bearing the same title, published by Midsea Books.

The Maritime Museum will be open between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Normal museum admission fees apply.

Exhibition of Models and Miniatures

The Mosta Philantropic Society Talent Mosti has organised an exhibition featuring models and miniatures of cars and military vehicles, aeroplanes and warships. The exhibition is being held at the Razzett tal-Markiż Mallia Tabone, Wied il-Għasel Street, Mosta. Open daily between 10 a.m. and noon and again between 5.30 to 8.30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m.

La Utopia Transgresora+pic

Spanish female photographer Ouka Leele, whose art career dates back to the late 1970s, ranks among the landmark figures of Europe. An exhibition presented in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy on the occasion of the EU Presidency is showing in the Main Hall of St James Cavalier.

A mixed media exhibition curated by the Malta Contemporary Art featuring cutting-edge works of art by 10 emerging Maltese artists which provide a glimpse into themes and ideas that young artists are dealing with today. Showing at the upper gallery, St James Cavalier.

ERDF Ġgantija Design Contest+pic

The proposals submitted for the Ġgantija Design Contest are currently on show at the Heritage Malta Head Office, Valletta. Open from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. (Last admission at 4 p.m.)

Let There Be Light

The Malta Photographic Society is organising an international photographic seminar at the Hilton, focusing on the different aspects of lighting in photography. The main aim for this seminar is to exploit the various lighting methods according to the subjects being shot. The speakers are: Damian McGillicuddy, Alan Carville, Ramon Sammut, Joe Attard & Peter Bartolo Parnis and Gino Galea.

Maltese connections in the Libres de Passanties of Barcelona

Francesca Balzan will be delivering a lecture to members and friends of the Malta Historical Society as part of the society’s annual general meeting. Ms Balzan will present the results of recent research at the City Archives of Barcelona, where a holding of several hundreds of drawings include some images, from as early as the 16th century to the 18th century, bearing Maltese connections. The lecture will be held at the Italian Cultural Institute, Valletta at 5.45 p.m.

This poetry meeting is being organised by the cultural section of the Żejtun local council. The meeting will be held at the local council’s premises. Featuring poet Alfred Massa.
