Twenty-five pieces of ceramic garden sculptures by Neville Ferry are on show at the Garden of Serenity in Sta Lucija.

The exhibition is entitled Myth, Magic And Mystery and the sculptures decorate the banks of the artificial lake in the garden.

Mr Ferry has donated a two-metre high ceramic sculpture to the Sta Lucija local council to kick-start a sculpture garden planned to enhance the locality's standing as a garden city, cultural centre and enclave for relaxation.

Mr Ferry was born in Msida in 1945 and studied at the local School of Art and later at the Croydon College of Art and the Loughborough College of Art in England.

The artist is inspired by megalithic culture, temples and artefacts in Malta.

"I do not attempt to reproduce artefacts or megaliths, but instead I deal with the aura created by these structures," he said.

Works by the artist stand in the gardens of the Peace Lab at Hal Far and in the former School for Arts and Crafts at Targa Gap, Mosta.

Art critic E.V. Borg said that Mr Ferry's satire "is so fine, delicate and polished in contrast to the physical roughness of the objects themselves that it is hardly discernible to the novice or casual observer.

"His tongue-in-cheek is irreverent, caustic and quite provocative".
