The Malta Chamber of Pharmacists has urged the Office of the Prime Minister immediately to start negotiations on the implementation of a corrective exercise to address anomalies arising out of the 1993 Agreement on the Classification and Grading structure of the Pharmacist Class.
Proposals in this regard were submitted to the Management and Personnel Office at the beginning of this year.
The chamber said that following the 1993 agreement, a number of anomalies had arisen which impinged on the pharmacists` conditions and presented disadvantages compared to other professions and employees.
Besides, a restructuring process was presently being undertaken at the Government Pharmaceutical Services, and new services, such as clinical pharmacy, were to be introduced and offered at the new hospital.
These would additionally present further challenges that would need to be accounted for in a new agreement, the chamber said.
The chamber augured mutual understanding and agreement in the interest of the patients, the services offered and pharmacists.
