Champions Depiro Still maintained their challenge to leaders Hibs Go Mobile with a sound victory over Hamrun Liberty last weekend. Luxol Vodafone and Naxxar Danone completed their first-round commitments with victories over Kerygma and Qormi Quick Shot respectively.

Depiro, though short of the services of Dorianne Galea and Rosanne Falzon, were never really troubled by Hamrun. They dominated all the way to win 66-31.

Luxol, after a slow start which saw Kerygma leading 13-10 at the end of the first session, stepped up their play to open a 36-21 lead before the last session got underway.

Kevin Zammit's girls finished worthy winners 45-30.

Naxxar felt the absence of Sandra Schembri Wismayer and struggled more than expected against bottom-placed Qormi.

Naxxar's good phase towards the end of the first session was wiped out by Qormi in the second quarter as the interval saw both teams locked 23-all.

Ten consecutive points in the late stages of the third session opened the way for Naxxar's 54-46 victory as Qormi's efforts to break their duck proved futile.

Standings: Hibs 12 (6-0); Depiro 11 (5-1); Luxol 10 (4-2); Naxxar 9 (3-3); Hamrun 8 (2-4); Kerygma 7 (1-5); Qormi 6 (0-6).

Next fixtures: (January 10) 2 p.m. Qormi vs Hamrun; 3.45 p.m. Kerygma vs Hibs. (January 11) 11 a.m. Depiro vs Luxol.
