Why change matters

On May 30 we have the opportunity to vote for a positive change that strengthens our economy, improves quality of life, supports families and young people, and builds a Malta that we can proudly pass on to future generations

Like many parents, I often find myself having the same conversations around the dinner table with my wife and four children that families across Malta are having every day. What future will my children and their children have?

How will young people ever be able to afford their own home? Why does it feel like a never-ending struggle to get ahead despite working harder than ever? Why has quality of life become such a constant concern? And what can we do about this?

We stand at a crossroads. We can continue accepting these pressures as inevitable or we can choose a different direction for our future.

And this is what is at stake on May 30. Are we going to remain stuck with the same problems year after year or are we going to take the first step towards meaningful change?

I’ve had plenty of time to think about our children’s future lately as I sat in traffic. The rising cost of living, pressures on our environment, concerns about healthcare and education are not abstract political debates. They are realities that affect us all every day.

The answer to these challenges cannot simply be to continue as we are. Because we cannot afford to. We need a fresh start built on long-term planning not short-term solutions. And, above all, we need strong leadership with courage and vision to prepare us for this future, today.

This is why change matters.

We need a fresh start built on long-term planning not short-term solutions

Change should never be pursued for its own sake. Positive change must be guided by a clear vision, practical solutions and a genuine commitment to improving people’s lives. And this is precisely what the Nationalist Party is offering.

There is a difference between slogans and vision. One panders to headlines and immediate applause, the other creates an opportunity for long-term change while protecting quality of life.

It is possible to have an economy that continues to prosper while ensuring that prosperity truly benefits families and workers. Malta’s future competitiveness depends not only on economic performance but also on quality of life and that goes further than cash in the pocket.

Quality of life is about having time for your family, it means young people feeling confident they can build a future in Malta. It means peace of mind for workers, businesses and pensioners who deserve stability. It means helping young people achieve the dream of home ownership, investing in better healthcare and education, an improved infrastructure, stronger environmental protection and more efficient public services.

This is a vision that places people at the front of national policy. And it is achievable because we deserve better.

A cleaner environment, better planning, safer communities, improved mobility and sustainable development are not luxuries – they are essential for our well-being today and that of our children tomorrow.

Above all, we deserve a government that leads with responsibility and purpose, a government that is competent to implement its vision and transform its proposals into action.

The Nationalist Party’s proposals demonstrate that change is not merely an abstract idea but a concrete plan for a better future.

The coming election is therefore not simply about choosing a government. It is about choosing the direction our country will take in the years ahead. We can choose to remain satisfied with the present challenges, or we can choose a new direction based on vision, preparation and positive reform.

On May 30, we have the opportunity to vote for a positive change that strengthens our economy, improves quality of life, supports families and young people and builds a Malta that we can proudly pass on to future generations.

I still believe deeply in Malta and in the potential of its people. But belief alone is not enough. We need the courage to choose a better direction, one that gives families hope and builds a country our children will be proud to inherit. This is why I chose to serve.

Joe Giglio is the Nationalist Party’s spokesperson on justice and a electoral candidate on the ninth and tenth electoral districts.
