A Hamrun man was yesterday charged with assaulting a warden and beating him with a pipe.

Joseph Pace, 48, pleaded not guilty to the assault on warden Antonio Caruana while the latter was carrying out his duties, to using obscene language and breaching the peace in Hamrun on Monday.

Pace was granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm1,000.

Police Inspector Mario Bonello prosecuted.

Dr Emmanuel Mallia appeared for Pace.
