A Hamrun man of Italian origin was yesterday charged with insulting, threatening and assaulting a police sergeant and six constables at the St Julians police station on Wednesday night.

Maurizio Massimiliano, 39, was also charged with causing over Lm50 damage to a police car, simulating an offence, disobeying the police and breaching the peace at the police station. He was also charged with breaking into a car and trying to break into another one earlier on that night.

Massimiliano pleaded not guilty to all charges and was remanded in custody.

Police Inspector Martin Sammut prosecuted.

Dr Malcolm Mifsud appeared for the defendant.
