Two young men were yesterday charged with stealing a car and damaging it extensively when they allegedly set it alight earlier this week.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti heard Robert Viacava, 21, of Fgura and Keith Zammit, 20, of Xghajra plead not guilty to stealing Anthony Ferris' Peugeot 206 from Rinella, damaging it and threatening the police.

Mr Zammit was also charged with trying to seriously injure three policemen when he drove a car in their direction.

The two men were remanded in custody.

Police Inspector Anthony Cassar prosecuted.
