A Qormi man was yesterday charged with impersonating a police officer in order to be able to search a Ta' Xbiex house and with stealing money and gold from the same house.

Patrick Mangion, 28, pleaded not guilty to stealing less than Lm1,000 worth of cash and gold from Godwin Galea's house when he impersonated a police officer on October 11 at about 6.30 p.m. and to relapsing.

Mangion was remanded in custody but Magistrate Antonio Mizzi ordered the director of prisons to ensure Mangion was given all the medication required.

The magistrate also appointed a probation officer to visit Mangion in prison and to start a rehabilitation process.

Police Inspector Angelo Caruana prosecuted.

Dr Franco Debono appeared for Mangion.
