A 26-year-old man was yesterday charged with breaking into 19 cars and stealing car stereos and hi-fi equipment while his 20-year-old friend was charged with complicity.

David Vella, of Pembroke pleaded not guilty to stealing the items from the cars, trying to steal two cars and damaging all the 21 cars last month.

Mario Barbara, of Gudja, pleaded not guilty to complicity with Vella, inciting him to commit the crimes and handling stolen property.

Inspector Mario Tonna and Carmel Abdilla prosecuted.
