A 24-year-old man was yesterday charged with trafficking 40 to 50 grammes of heroin.

Renald Baldacchino, of Qormi, pleaded not guilty to the possession of heroin in circumstances denoting it was not for his personal use, trafficking in the drug on February 25 and the previous three months and relapsing.

Inspector Norbert Ciappara, prosecuting, estimated that the heroin had a street value of Lm30 per gramme.

Baldacchino was granted bail on condition he does not leave his house without court permission and was bound by a personal guarantee of Lm10,000.

Dr Giannella Caruana Curran and Dr Emanuel Mallia appeared for Baldacchino.
