A Libyan man was yesterday charged with stealing an off-roader and damaging it last month.

Ismael Habesh, 33, pleaded not guilty to stealing Henry Attard's Cherokee Jeep on July 14, damaging it and damaging a police car to the detriment of the government.

Habesh was also charged with driving dangerously and recklessly, committing a crime during the operative time of a suspended jail term and while on conditional discharge and relapsing.

Habesh was granted bail against a Lm250 deposit and a personal guarantee of Lm750.

Police Inspectors Silvio Valletta and Stephen Gatt prosecuted.

Dr Anglu Farrugia appeared for Habesh.
