Chelsea FC have appointed Shaun Michael Gore, director of Football In The Community (FITC), to assist the adjudicating panel at Saturday's Emirates Young Footballer Challenge 2003 which takes place at the Centenary Stadium, Ta' Qali.

The Young Footballer Challenge is organised by Chelsea Supporters Club - Malta and sponsored by Emirates Airline. It is supported by Chelsea FC and has the approval of the Malta Football Association.

Gore, a former professional footballer and central defender with Fulham and later Halifax Town, joined Chelsea's youth coaching staff in 1992. In 1999 he completed the UEFA conversion course and appointed Director of Centre of Excellence.

He embarked on setting up the FITC scheme as part of Chelsea FC's commitment to help improve relations with the community at Stamford Bridge. The aim of the scheme is to improve the standard of football coaching and the players, both boys and girls, at grassroot levels.

This programme offers free coaching to primary and middle schools, after school clubs, courses in coaching for teachers, and special weekend courses for children with the emphasis on having fun. Gore has held his post for the past ten years now.

Gore's visit to Malta has been made possible through the initiative of the Chelsea Supporters Club - Malta. Mr and Mrs Gore are guests at Kennedy Nova Hotel, The Strand, Gzira.
