A championship for juniors was recently held by the Malta Chess Federation. Three Swiss tournaments were run in parallel with 71 players competing for the various titles at stake.

Qormi's Mark Cardona, 14, won the tournament making it a double after his top placing in the Candidates' competition which earned him a berth in the national finals. Former junior champion Charles Sinn was second, one point behind Cardona.
