Jeffrey Chetcuti was yesterday given the green light by his club Valletta to join Sliema Wanderers. The 28-year-old Malta international defender has been one of the main targets for the Blues but his transfer has taken some time to materialise due to protracted negotiations.

Joe Caruana Curran, president of Valletta, yesterday said that his club has approved Chetcuti's move to Sliema. He said that Sliema have agreed to pay a transfer fee according to the Malta FA parameters and Chetcuti's move should be completed once the transfer ban on Valletta is lifted.

Darren Debono, Chetcuti's defensive partner, was also linked with a move to Sliema but Caruana Curran said that Valletta were close to reaching an agreement with the towering defender to remain with them.
