Children’s choir performs rich Christmas programme

Repertoire included traditional hymns in Maltese and popular festive numbers

A festive concert by Virgo children’s choir was held at Għajnsielem’s old church on December 26.

Titled Sounds of the Season, the concert, under the direction of Maureen Zerafa, offered a rich programme of Christmas music, including the traditional Maltese hymn Ninni La Tibkix Iżjed by Jesuit priest Indri Schembri, first published in 1967, alongside Milied Qaddis, Caro Gesù Bambino, Sing for the King and Jingle Bells.

The audience also enjoyed performances of The Little Drummer Boy, Born on Christmas Day, Carol of the Bells, Silent Night, Mary Did You Know, Adeste Fideles and O Holy Night.

The choir was accompanied on piano by Shaun Portelli, while Mro Frankie Debono and Nicole Portelli provided violin accompaniment.

The evening, presented by Lelio Spiteri, also featured a recital of Joe M. Attard’s poem Reġa’ Wasal il-Milied.
