Gale-force winds and distinctly cooler weather put a slight damper on the first edition of Citta Magica, as the sudden cold spell prevented some families from venturing into Valletta.

The main squares in the capital city were brought to life and transformed into open air theatres with musicians, bands, fairs and street artists offering all types of entertainment.

The event, which was organised by the Tourism Parliamentary Secretariat, the Malta Tourism Authority and the Valletta Business Community, ran for over 12 hours.

Different events were organised to please all ages. Children could see the giant Playmobil toys at Auberge d'Italie or watch the Down Town Fairy Town musical at St James Cavalier.

Performers like Ira Losco, Mark Spiteri Lucas, Chris and Moira, Airport Impressions and Chasing Pandora performed on stages set up in the recently inaugurated St George's Square and Merchants Street.

Stalls selling food, sweets and artisan products were set up along Merchants and Republic Streets, attracting people's attention while walking from one event to another.

Car enthusiasts had three hours to pore over a classic car exhibition in Freedom Square while the Malta police dog section held a demonstration.
