Ms Shen May's main responsibility will be to target and attract potential foreign investment from China.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Ms Shen May has experience as a finance manager at local insurance management firms as well as a financial controller at an English language services firm.
She obtained her degree in Accountancy in 2000, having previously completed a bachelor's degree in Chinese law in 1990.
Malta Enterprise thanked her predecessor Ms Mizzi Liang for her work.
Ms Mizzi Liang, who is the wife of Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister Konrad Mizzi, was controversially appointed to the Malta Enterprise role in September 2013.
Her €13,000-a-month pay package prompted consternation and criticism from the Opposition.
Malta Enterprise initially said that information related to Ms Mizzi Liang's achievements was confidential. After the Data Protection Commissioner ordered it to hand over the documents, Malta Enterprise officials changed tack and said they had no records related to her performance.
