A Chinese woman admitted in court today that she tried to bribe a policewoman at the airport after she was refused entry to Malta.

The woman, 30-year-old accountant Ren Xiuju, arrived in Malta yesterday but was refused entry. She, however, refused to board an aircraft to return to her point of departure.

When the police were called, the woman asked to go to the bathroom. She was escorted there, and when she emerged, she held a wad of cash in her hand, which she tried to put in the escorting officer's pocket.

The woman was taken to court this morning where she admitted the charges. She was sentenced to two years imprisonment suspended for four years. €1,500 which she had been carrying were confiscated. The court also issued a removal order.
