Malta is being engulfed by roadside banners as the countdown to next month's Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting begins.

The colourful banners, sponsored by Bank of Valletta, are being put up at various locations around the island.

Fifty-three world leaders are expected to take part in the meeting being held between November 25 and 27.

Meanwhile, a series of six weekly programmes on the Commonwealth kicks off on PBS this evening. Presented by Mario Micallef, the first programme will focus on how the Commonwealth has developed over the years.

Other programmes will concentrate on Malta's involvement in the Commonwealth, how the meeting came to Malta, the People's Forum, Youth Forum and Business Forum as well as interviews carried out with various personalities last June.
