The Malta International Airport has launched a Christmas Bonanza at its outlets, offering substantial discounts on selected items during the festive season and the chance to win a two-week, five-star holiday in a "fun" lottery.
On offer is also a free calendar for a Lm5 purchase in any of the airport outlets.
The MIA said tourists have reported that the bonanza provided a welcome finale to their stay in Malta while providing the type of international travel value that is associated with larger airports. A Japanese tourist flying to Rome remarked: "This bonanza captures the imagination; I would love to spend two weeks in a five-star resort for free".
The duty free zones at the airport present a number of world class outlets offering a wide range of tax-free shopping.
The Christmas Bonanza programme is backed by sponsorships from Air Malta and the Radisson SAS Baypoint resort.
A spokesperson for MIA said: "Our inventory is changed regularly to best fit customers' needs. We have just seen the opening of two new concessionaire outlets which will reinforce the mix."
MIA Duty Free employs over 70 staff who among them speak 16 languages.
There are 20 payment points throughout the shop floor. All hard currencies and major credit cards are accepted.
