Two American astronauts on board the International Space Station sent out a Christmas greeting today.

Commander Barry Wilmore and Flight Engineer Terry Virts appeared in the station holding a small Christmas tree and speaking into microphones.

Wilmore mentioned the religious foundation of the popular holiday, saying he and Virts planned to recognize that aspect in addition to exchanging gifts.

Virts mentioned that being able to celebrate Christmas from space was an "honour," and hoped people back home would appreciate being able to be with their families.
