Church sets up commission for the promotion of integral human development
Mark Cachia will chair the new commission
The Maltese episcopal conference has set up an interdiocesan commission for promoting integral human development, which will be led by Mark Cachia as executive chair.
He will be supported in this role by a council made up of people from a diverse range of professional backgrounds.
The main task of the commission is to promote the human person and people's dignity in all matters relating to the economy and work, poverty and injustice, and the care of creation as our common home.
Its remit also includes the ministry with different sectors of society, including professionals and workers, as well as the promotion of the mission of the laity in the secular world, as expressed in Lumen Gentium.
This commission incorporates the work previously carried out by the justice and peace, and the environment commissions, in line with the structure adopted by the Vatican.
Cachia holds academic qualifications in philosophy and theology and specialises in moral theology.
From 2021 to 2024, he served as executive officer at the justice and peace commission. He has also held several roles at the Jesuit Refugee Service Malta and has been actively engaged in a range of social initiatives both in Malta and internationally.
