Cinemas had 513,276 admissions last year, marginally down on 555,858 in 2024, data issued by the National Statistics Office shows.
The most popular film titles were ‘Lilo and Stitch’, ‘A Minecraft Movie’ and ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’, which accounted for 7.0 per cent, 5.6 per cent and 3.5 per cent of total admissions, respectively
The NSO said that in 2025, cinemas in Malta and Gozo projected 385 film titles and registered a total of 513,276 admissions. There were six cinemas with a total of 23 screens and a seating capacity of 3,872. Two of the cinemas were in Gozo.
Maltese productions, many of which belonged to the short films category, had 10,882 admissions with a total gross box office of €75,654 in 280 screenings.
During 2025, cinema audiences had a choice of 385 shows, the majority of which were fiction films. These films attracted 68.2 per cent of total admissions.
The majority of films were rated as ‘PG, ‘12A’ or ‘15’ in terms of age classification. 36.4 per cent of the films projected in 2025 were rated ‘15’, 21.3 per cent were rated as ’12A’, while 19.2 per cent were rated ‘PG’ .
Last year cinemas employed an average of 101 persons, with the majority engaged on a part-time basis.
