Valletta, still reeling from their loss to Hibs, were dealt another setback yesterday with the news that captain Jonathan Caruana (picture) is likely to be out for six weeks.

Caruana limped off the pitch 32 minutes into Wednesday’s encounter and an MRI scan has revealed that the Malta defender has damaged his medial collateral ligament.

Valletta coach Paul Zammit must also check on the fitness of Brazilian striker Jhonnattann ahead of tomorrow’s match against bottom side Naxxar Lions.

Jhonnattann missed the Hibs clash after injuring his wrist in the 1-0 defeat to Balzan last weekend.

Naxxar coach Stefano Grima has a tough job to raise the morale of his players after their 5-0 mauling to Tarxien extended their losing start to five games.

Midfielder David Fenech is out after receiving a one-match ban for his red card in the defeat to Tarxien. Defenders Angus Buhagiar (knock) and Moises Gnenegbe (knee) are likely to miss out while goalkeeper Luke Pecorella is doubtful as he is nursing a hand injury.

Daren Falzon returns after shaking off a foot injury.
