Cleansing division to extend residential street cleaning to five more localities
The Division carries out daily interventions in residential streets across 34 localities
The Cleaning and Maintenance Division (CMD) will begin providing residential street cleaning services in five additional localities, the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness said.
The service has already started in residential streets in Sliema and St Julian’s, Parliamentary Secretary for Public Cleanliness Glenn Bedingfield said on Saturday.
It is expected to be extended to Żejtun, Mosta and Ħad-Dingli at the beginning of next year.
With the new agreements signed with the respective local councils, CMD will now be carrying out daily interventions in residential streets across 34 localities, affecting around 250,000 residents.
Bedingfield said discussions with the local councils had been ongoing for several months and added that more councils were placing their trust in the division. He said the move reflected residents’ desire to improve their quality of life and that CMD was in a position to deliver an efficient service through continued investment in resources and machinery.
Environment Minister Miriam Dalli said the agreements showed how collaboration with local councils could lead to practical solutions that improved residents’ daily lives. She said the ministry would continue investing in resources, planning and technology to ensure cleaner, more sustainable localities.
CMD director general Ramon Deguara said the division remained committed to keeping the country clean and orderly, adding that the aim was for all areas to reflect a culture of respect and responsibility shared by residents and visitors alike.
