A Nadur man was cleared of the violent indecent assault on a woman after a magistrate ruled that, even it there had been enough evidence to prove the woman's version which there was not, the evidence would have proven defilement and not violent indecent assault. Magistrate Giovanni Grixti cleared Paul Muscat of the charge of violent indecent assault of the woman on July 18, 2001.

Police Inspector Antonello Grech prosecuted.
