A company director was yesterday cleared of the misappropriation of thousands of shampoo bottles when he shipped them to a Libyan company after a magistrate ruled that criminal intent had not been proven.
Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera cleared Paul Caruana, a director of Quality Imports Limited of the misappropriation of Panthene Shampoo bottles worth over $100,000 in November 2002.
The magistrate heard how Mr Caruana, 35, was an established businessman and had acted on instructions given to him. Evidence showed he had acted in good faith and, therefore, the criminal intent had not been proven.
Police Inspectors Bernard Zarb and Ian Joseph Abdilla prosecuted.
