A Tunisian man was yesterday given a one-year jail term suspended for two years for holding his wife against her will but was acquitted of raping her three years ago.

The 40-year-old man, whose name is not being published to protect his wife's identity, was also found guilty of holding his mother-in-law against her will and threatening them both on September 13, 1999, at about 11.30 p.m.

Police Inspector Abraham Zammit prosecuted.

Dr Richard Sladden was appointed legal aid for the defendant.
