Emanuel Ancilleri, 54, vice-president of first division football club Vittoriosa Stars, was arraigned before Magistrate Giovanni Grixti this morning and accused of bribing players of St George’s Football Club.

He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail against a €1,000 deposit. He was also banned from any sports facilities.

Last December 29 two players of St George’s FC admitted in court to accepting bribes of €1,000 each.

Goalkeeper Andrea Gatt, 29 and Lawrence Mizzi, 28, were given suspended jail terms and fined €500 each.
