Disgraced St George's players Andrea Gatt and Lawrence Mizzi, and Manwel Ancilleri, the vice-president of Vittoriosa Stars, have been temporarily suspended from all football activities by the Malta FA.

The Malta FA Board to Investigate Corrupt Practices has decided to ban Ancilleri after being informed that the police intend to press criminal charges against the Vittoriosa Stars official in connection with last month's Division One match against St George's.

Gatt and Mizzi received suspended jail terms and were fined €500 each last week after both admitted accepting a bribe to throw the match against Vittoriosa. The latter won the derby 3-2.

At a news conference last week, Malta FA officials confirmed that a Vittoriosa Stars official was also being questioned by the police.
