College inducts more athletes in Hall of Fame

St Edward's College has announced the list of sporting personalities who will be inducted into the St Edward's Athletic Hall of Fame.

Christian Ripard, Michael Gialanzé, Andrew Calascione, the late Wilfred Mamo, John Ripard Jr. and Jean Fleri Soler will be invested at a special ceremony tomorrow at 6.30 p.m. during the St Edward's College 2005-6 Prize Day.

During the official function, Pippo Psaila, deputy chairman of the St Edward's College Board of Governors and chancellor of the St Edward's Athletic Hall of Fame, will present the sport personalities with an official document and certificate of induction.

In its 76 years of history, St Edward's College has always been a frontrunner in education and has provided its students with a holistic education in which sport has a very high priority and value.

Stars of The St Edwards College Athletic Hall of Fame, launched last year, include leading sportsmen and women and sport administrators who have in many ways affected the country's athletic history.

Among them are six Olympians who competed in the 1936, 1948, 1984, 1988, 1996 and 2000 games, former national coach and the current Olympic Committee director of sport and chef de mission Pippo Psaila, Lewis Portelli, Edward Aquilina, the late David Cluett, Sean Sullivan, Brian Said, Maurice and Kevin De Cesare, Antoine Cachia Caruana and Charles Mock.

Some of the members have also received state honours for their contribution to the nation.
