Colourist Carmen Pizzuto previews her upcoming solo exhibition at Ta' Stringi in Naxxar

The study processes which lead to the making of an artist are complex. Formal education alone, although being an important prerequisite, is only a basic start towards one's continued development, a first small step from which to start with many others to follow.

Having studied art to an advanced level during my secondary education in Malta, then continuing with a diploma in commercial graphic art during my first years in Melbourne, I nonetheless consider my immense passion for the actual act of painting to have been, and will continue to be, the essence and guide towards creating the finished art work.

When a few months ago I launched my own website, it was both with excitement and satisfaction. With the knowledge that another important step in my painting career was about to commence.

As the website clearly shows I have for the last years taken inspiration for my work mainly from my experience of the Australian landscape and my 14 years in Melbourne. I concentrated my expressions in trying to leave a final chromatic imprint, and soulfully expressing in a lyrical way this exciting period of my life. Nonetheless, I have always held a love for painting still life. Ever since I was a child some of my very first art-work was in depicting still life. I just love the physical act of painting and, composing still life provides me with such a sense of fun, as I work and put the pieces together. Playing with colour and shape, finally to see emerging a new and exciting piece.

I guess you could say that I am still a child at heart, as I draw my inspiration from images of simple things, bowls, fruit, a room much remembered and loved. Other items that I might recall from my childhood days and the house in which I grew up.

The theme of still life will thus constitute the next subject matter for this coming art show. It is a selection of art-work which I have been putting together for the last year and a half. It is particularly exciting that this work will be exhibited on the premises of Ta' Stringi restaurant in Naxxar,an elegant eating place housed in a refurbished palazzino style building, and in whose ambiance the paintings will fit to advantage. I thank the owner of Ta' Stringi. Romina Pace who is supporting this exhibition and making this experience possible.
