Comedy at Salesian Theatre

Laughter is guaranteed in Serq jew Qerq , the next production by Atturi Salesjani, to be performed at the Salesian Theatre, Sliema, on Saturday and Sunday.

The play is about a modern Robin Hood-style 'gang', all upper-crust lodgers of a flat in London owned by Dame Beatrice Appleby, who decide to rob owners of fur coats, sell them and give the proceeds to people who are less well off than themselves!

Rina Camilleri, playing Dame Beatrice, portrays the cultured woman who finds stealing is an exciting business, and puts the role over with an infectious larger-than-life gaiety.  Largely contributing to the fun are Margaret Buhagiar as the masculine Miss Parry, the elocution teacher, and in contrast Rita Camilleri as the dithery, weak Miss Hatfield, who more than once nearly lands her fellow partners in crime where they belong - in jail.  

Imposing Lady Miller, played by  Norma Camilleri is most amusing when trying to trap into marriage the Brigadier (Tonio Vassallo).  She finds a formidable rival in Dame Beatrice, however.  As the Dame's devoted maid who has seen the inside of a prison, Edwina Farrugia adds to the frolic. The cast is rounded-off by Leornard Falzon as a detective sergeant and constable.

This English farce by Peter Coke, translated by Marcelle and Victor Castillo, is directed by André Camilleri.
