For the second year running Canon P. Pullicino Rabat Girls Secondary is taking part in the Comenius project "Waterviews" along with students from other schools in Germany, Italy, Greece, and Finland. The meeting took place in Lodi, Italy.
Thanks to the EUPU Socrates programme and to the sponsors, three students, Maria Elena Curmi Cassar, Roxanne Buhagiar, and Abigail Pace, had the experience of a lifetime when they took part in the Educational Comenius meeting.
The students were accompanied by Maria Debono, head of School, and project co-ordinator Maryanne Cassar. The meeting coincided with the EXPO "School Environment", an annual exhibition linked to the field of environmental education sponsored by the Lombardy Region at Crespi D'Adda and Trezza Sull'Adda respectively.
A play and mime were put up jointly by the students from the Maffeo Vegio, the school taking part in the project, and the university students. The play The Miserable City was held in a clearing in the woods. The theme dealt with the climatic conditions and atmospheric pollution. The Maltese students were part of the cast for this play. This was a great experience for them and they acted their part extremely well and with great confidence.
Some cultural visits were organised for the students to get familiar with the culture and heritage of this part of north Italy. A quiz about the town of Lodi was held for the German, Maltese and Italian students to enhance their knowledge of this interesting city. During the various meetings, the work carried out during the past year was evaluated and tasks for the year 2003/2004, the last year of the project, were established.
An important meeting is to be held in Malta in November to discuss and finalise the tasks and activities for the last year of the project.
During one of the school visits a special lesson was held to acquaint the foreigners with the Italian language. Ms Debono took an active part by actually taking over the lesson.
