¤ Fontana parish church marked its first centenary yesterday. It was dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus by Bishop Giovanni M. Camilleri on January 29, 1905 and became a parish church on March 27, 1911.
In conjunction with this celebration the lieutenancy of the Order in Malta today is concluding a three-day national conference with a Pontifical Mass at 10 a.m. during which the Cardinal will invest three new knights, including Fontana parish priest Fr George Bezzina.
At 6.30 p.m., the Chorus Urbanus, under Mro John Galea, will be giving a concert of sacred music to conclude the centenary celebrations.
¤ The feast of St John Bosco is being celebrated in Victoria today.
At 9 a.m., Bishop Nikol Cauchi will lead a Pontifical concelebrated Mass at the chapel of the Don Bosco Oratory, with the participation of the Laudate Pueri Choir, directed by Fr George Frendo. Later, Fr George Mercieca will bless pets and other animals in the Oratory grounds.
The traditional lunch will be held at the Calypso Hotel in Marsalforn at 12.15 p.m.
At 4.30, Mgr Dr Joseph Farrugia, parish priest of St George's basilica, will celebrate Mass, with the participation of the Laudate Pueri Choir.
The procession with the statue of the saint, accompanied by children, youths and past pupils of the oratory, leaves the church at 5.30.
The Gozo Youth Band and Orchestra, led by Mro Joseph Grech, is holding a Disney Spectacular at the Oratory hall at 7.30. Entrance is free.
Cathedral archpriest Mgr Dr Joseph Vella Gauci will celebrate Mass at the Oratory to mark the liturgical feast of Don Bosco, tomorrow at 7 p.m. The Chorus Ecclesiae Cathedralis, under Mro Colin Attard, will take part.
¤ Tomorrow, at 5 p.m., Bishop Nikol Cauchi will lead a concelebrated Mass to mark the feast of Don Bosco at the Salesian Sisters' Chapel in Republic Street, Victoria.
