¤ The feast of St George is being celebrated with special pomp in Victoria, today.
At 7.45 a.m, the La Stella Band will march from in Republic Street to welcome the Archbishop of Palermo, Cardinal Salvatore de Giorgi. He will be accompanied by the collegiate chapter and clergy of St George's in a procession from the Bishop's Palace to the basilica.
There, the archpriest, Mgr Dr Joseph Farrugia, will deliver an address of welcome to Cardinal de Giorgi, who is celebrating the golden jubilee of his priestly ordination.
At 8.30, Cardinal de Giorgi and Bishop Nikol Cauchi lead a Pontifical concelebrated Mass in which members of the Cathedral chapter, the St George's basilica chapter and the clergy, diocesan and religious, will take part.
The St George Band of Qormi will be playing marches in the streets of Victoria at 11 a.m.
After vespers at 6 p.m., the La Stella Band and Nicolò Isouard Band of Mosta will play marches from Republic Street to St George Square.
The procession with the statue of St George led by Cardinal de Giorgi, in which the relic of St George brought from Rome will be carried, leaves the basilica at 7, accompanied by the La Stella Band.
The Mnarja Band will perform a musical programme on Independence Square at 8, followed by The procession will end with an Eucharist celebration at 10.30 p.m. At 11 p.m. La Stella Band will play rousing marches from the band club to St George's Square.
¤ A Marian activity, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of a moral and healthy environment, is being organised by the Gozo diocese at Marsalforn, on Tuesday.
A cortège will leave the Menqa at 7.30 p.m. for the promenade, where Bishop Cauchi will say Mass and deliver a homily.
¤ A sunset cruise on the Gozo Princess to Comino is being organised by the SPCA Gozo, on Wednesday, at 7 p.m. A buffet, which includes half a carafe of wine, will be served during the evening. Tickets, or further information may be obtained by calling Sue on 7926-7329 or Pru on 9925-8606.

A newly-ordained priest, Fr Charles Sultana, will celebrate Mass at 6.15 p.m. with homily, with the participation of the Levita Laurentius choir.
At 7.30 the presentation of babies will be led by Canon Michael Borg, while at 8.30 Mass will be said by the church's rector, Fr George Bezzina. This will be followed by a healing prayer service at 9.
¤ A Malta cultural outing, to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, is being organised by the Leone Band Club on Sunday. The group will be catching the ferry at 5.15 p.m. Tickets at Lm2 each. For more information contact the secretary of the band club, John Schembri.
