The liturgical feast of St John Bosco will be celebrated on Thursday at the Don Bosco Oratory, Victoria. Masses will be celebrated for schoolchildren during the day. At 7 p.m. High Mass will be led by archpriest Mgr Paul Cardona. The Chorus Urbanus under the direction of Mro John Galea will take part.
A Eucharistic adoration will be held on Thursday at St George's Basilica between 7.30 p.m. and 9 .m.
San Lawrenz council is organising a carnival on Friday on the parish square from 8 p.m. onwards. The programme will include various competitions, hilarious acts and dances.
Xewkija council will also be organising carnival activities. On Friday costumes competitions will be held at the Xewkija parish centre at 6.30 p.m. The Mellieħa Stage Friends will present a play 'Il-Giddieb Għomru Qasir'.
Once again Xaghra council is organising the village's carnival. The theme chosen is The Family's Carnival. The Kumittiva, on Saturday a carnival dance that dates back to 1890 .The village of Xaghra was instrumental in keeping this dance alive and the council worked hard to revive this tradition. The Kumittiva will be repeated on Saturday on Nazzarene Square at 7.30 p.m. and on the last day of carnival on Victory Square at 7.30 p.m. The programme will also include dances by schoolchildren and other groups.
The main carnival show will be held on Saturday at St John The Baptist Square. A defile of companies in costume and carnival floats will start from San Bert Street at 6 p.m. Dancing competitions will be held on St John The Baptist Square from 6 p.m. onwards.
On Sunday a carnival parade will start from Ta' Gokk Street ( near Ġnien Castelvenere) at 10 a.m. with the participation of floats and the Prekursur Band. At the end of the parade the traditional 'Kukkanja' will be held.
Today at 10.30 a.m. Bishop Mario Grech will lead Mass at Marsalforn church commemorating St Paul's Shipwreck. Today the diocese is celebrating Parish Centre Day.
Tomorrow at 4 p.m. a group of priests from the parishes of Munxar, Sannat, Xewkija, Għajnsielem and Qala will meet with Mgr Grech to pray and mediate the Holy Word of God, a practice known as Lectio Divina. The meeting will take place at Qala parish church.
On Saturday, Candlemas Day (the feast of the Presentation of the Lord), Mgr Grech will lead a celebration of the Word of God during which he will present babies born last year to Our Lady of Ta' Pinu at 4 p.m. At 6 p.m. he will celebrate Mass at the Cathedral. At 6.30 Mass will be celebrated at Ta' Pinu Sanctuary commemorating the Day for Consecrated Life. All are invited to pray together with religious and consecrated lay people.
On the anniversary of the coronation of the titular painting of Our Lady of Grace venerated at the Capuchins Friary church, Victoria, a Mass will be concelebrated today at 9 a.m. followed by lunch at Villa Fiorita, Marsalforn. The Din l-Art Ħelwa Gozo Branch will be holding a talk by Martin Scicluna, vice president of Din l-Art Ħelwa and member of National Commission for Sustainable Development on Thursday at 6.30 p.m. The talk will be held at the Gozo Ministry's exhibition hall, St Francis Square, Victoria.
