• To mark the anniversary of the 1948 tragedy at sea, the cultural committee is holding a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument in Zewwieqa, Mgarr, this morning at 10.15. Bishop Mario Grech leads a Mass on a Gozo Channel ferry at 10.30 a.m.

• The Shaggy Dog is showing today at Don Bosco Oratory, Victoria, at 5.30 p.m.

• "Island fragility and cultural resources" is the theme of this year's annual national conference organised by Heritage Malta at the Grand Hotel, Ghajnsielem, on Friday. The conference will focus on the challenges encountered by small island nations in the management of their cultural heritage and in the evolution of sustainable cultural tourism. • The Gozitan group Support lill-Missjunarji is holding a bazaar on St Francis Square, opposite St Francis Church, Victoria, in aid of Gozitan missionaries working in Third World countries from tomorrow to Saturday. • A course in theology for the laity, organised by the Curia's Education and Cultural Secretariat, starts at the Sacred Heart Seminary, Victoria, on November 8. Application forms are obtainable from parochial offices or the Curia.

• A festival of dance, song and drama will be held at Ghajnsielem parish centre on December 7. Those interested in taking part may collect an application form from the local council offices. Forms should be handed in by Wednesday.
