The feast of St John the Baptist is being celebrated today at Xewkija.
Bishop Nikol Cauchi will lead a pontifical concelebrated Mass at the Rotunda church at 8.45 a.m. The Archpriest of Qala, Rev. Dr Joe Zammit, will deliver the panegyric.
The Leone Band will play marches at 11. The St Cajetan Band of Hamrun will join the band at 11.30.
The Vicar-General, Mgr Giovanni B. Gauci, will concelebrate a solemn Mass at 6.30 p.m., and will also deliver the panegyric.
The procession with the statue of St John the Baptist, led by Mgr Francis Debrincat, will leave the church at 7.30, accompanied by the Precursor Band.
The La Stella Band will perform on the church parvis at 8.30.
The procession will end with the antiphon and a sacramental blessing at 10.30. The Precursor Band will then play marches at 11 p.m.

¤ Festivities marking Mnarja (the feast of St peter and St Paul), being celebrated on Wednesday, continue today at 9 a.m. in Nadur. The Ite ad Joseph Band will play marches, followed by a programme on the church square.
Fr Joseph Bajada is celebrating Mass for emigrants and foreigners who live in the parish at tomorrow at 6 p.m. A reception will follow in the sacristy.
