An inter-ministerial committee has been set up following the rediscovery of the neolithic temple of Xrobb l-Għaġin.

The discovery and excavation of the megalithic building at Xrobb l-Għaġin took place just over a century ago, during the halcyon days of archaeological exploration of neolithic Malta. The remains were first noted by Carmelo Rizzo, then an architect in the Department of Public Works, who in 1913 accompanied Sir Temi Zammit to the location.

This site was thought to be lost. However, in recent years the remains were rediscovered.

The ancient remains are in an extremely precarious site at the edge of a cliff. Drastic action is needed to avoid the temple complex from collapsing into the sea below.

The Committee will advise the government on the way forward to protect this important historical site, situated in an environment protected area. The Committee will also address the preservation and recovery of the neolithic site.

The Inter-Ministerial Committee is made up of Anthony Pace, Norbert Gatt, Kenneth Gambin, Vincent Attard, Ruben P. Borg, and Ruben Grima.
