The Cottonera Rehabilitation Committee has urged Heritage Malta to re-think its plans for the Auberge de France in Vittoriosa, saying that it would be the ideal location for a museum of Maltese costume or ethnography.

The CRC was reacting to the news that Heritage Malta wanted to use the neglected building as a museum, but that it had in mind a museum dedicated to the Maltese language.

The CRC said it did not feel that this would attract enough visitors.

"CRC urges Heritage Malta to discuss the issue before wasting any money on the project," it said.

It also suggested that there should be a Cottonera ticket entitling the holder to visit all private and public museums in Cottonera, and also suggested that the Malta Tourism Authority should publish a brochure on the attractions of Cottonera.

The plans are to open the 'national museum of the social history of the Maltese language' in 2006.
