San Pedro International Ltd today filed a judicial protest against the director general of VAT, claiming they had been summoned as a witness in a case instituted by one of their competitors, Castle Hill Ltd, against the Prime Minister.

In their protest, signed by lawyers Stefano Filletti and Jennifer Shaw, San Pedro said the summons consisted in a request to present to the court documents showing the VAT amount they had paid.

They claimed that they had no interest or connection to Castle Hill’s case and the information they were being asked to give was commercially sensitive and should not be given publicly or in a case where a competitor was involved, as their profits and losses could be identified.

The company said the department’s behaviour to use its data base to identify the company as a potential witness was abusive and incorrect.
