Computer donations to eliminate 'digital divide'

The Minister For Public Investments and Information Technology, Austin Gatt, yesterday donated computers to a number of institutions as part of his ministry's drive to eliminate the digital divide.

Four computers were presented to Merhba Bik, Ghabex, Lourdes and Qalb ta' Gesu homes, which all serve as shelters for women.

Sixteen computers were presented to homes for the elderly, including nine to be used in a large computer centre at St Vincent de Paul Home, and other computers were given to the Little Sisters of the Poor and homes for the elderly at Cospicua, Floriana, Gzira, Mosta, Msida, Mtarfa and Zejtun.

Computer courses will be held for the residents of Villa Chelsea and a website will be created for the Pensioners' Association.

Dr Gatt was accompanied by parliamentary secretaries Dolores Cristina and Francis Agius.
