While I was stationed on your lovely island, from 1955 to 1957, I got to know a lot of people, and one of these friends and fellow soldiers was a Maltese citizen. He joined the army in England and was in the same regiment. This unit was 34 (Seringapatam) Battery, 80 L.A.A. Regiment, Royal Artillery.
We were stationed at St Patrick's barracks for the most part of our time in Malta. We also had some time in North Africa before coming back to Malta to Tignè barracks. We left Malta in April 1957 on the troop ship Empire Ken from Valletta.
I would like to make contact with this person. His surname is either Zammit or Sammut. Some of the mates he served with go to Malta on holiday and I am sure that he would appreciate a visit from them before it is too late. The reason why this request has not been made before is that I have only been searching for ex-pals for a little while and his name came up with a photo from a mate.
